Someone dies from bowel cancer every 30 minutes in the UK, but it doesn’t have to be this way. When diagnosed early, 9 in 10 people survive — yet almost half are diagnosed too late, with cases rising in younger people. This campaign will fund research to diagnose bowel cancer sooner and save lives.

To save more lives from bowel cancer, we need to tackle the barriers that lead to people being diagnosed too late. When found at the earliest stage, 9 in 10 people survive; diagnosed later, that falls to just 1 in 10. Under 50s are the fastest growing age group for bowel cancer diagnoses. Over 2,600 are diagnosed each year, and 4 in 10 had to visit their GP three or more times before being referred. Too often their symptoms are dismissed because of their age.
Over the past 20 years, the major advances in saving lives from bowel cancer have all come through research. With your support, we can fund more research projects that overcome barriers and accelerate progress to diagnose people quicker, easier and more effectively — including work on why bowel cancer is rising in younger people. Across our portfolio, every £1 invested generates a further £8.31 in additional research funding, helping deliver the breakthroughs people urgently need.
