Spina bifida and hydrocephalus are neurological conditions that cause physical and cognitive disabilities. They are rare, complex and require expert care. Without specialist advice and support, people with SBH are at risk of a poor quality of life. Minor health problems can escalate to crisis point; children can fall behind at school for lack of support; families can struggle to cope with the costs of caring; and loneliness and anxiety can become unmanageable.

Shine exists to provide the specialist advice and emotional support that would otherwise not be available to people living with these conditions. We offer anyone living with SBH free, lifelong membership, through which they can access unlimited health advice, practical support in terms of welfare and social and emotional support. Our work means that people living with these conditions can have their questions answered, problems solved and worries soothed – no matter how niche they may be.
