Drawing on 1927’s unique combination of skills in illustration, animation, and storytelling we are seeking to continue to offer invigorating and accessible participatory activities for young people (under 12s); encouraging them to share their world-view through illustration, craft and animation.

Young people in Thanet face a shortened life, of up to 7 years compared to inland neighbours, and poorer health due to a lack of employment opportunities (Professor Sir Michael Marmot). Access to arts opportunities has become a luxury few can afford, given Thanet is in the top 10% most deprived districts in England. This narrows the horizons of Thanet’s young people before they’ve reached secondary school.

Drawing on 1927’s expertise in illustration, animation, and storytelling, we will continue to provide participatory and accessible creative activities for under 12s, at an after school young animator’s club, to encourage them to express their world view. Aligning with WHO research on the arts' role in poor health prevention, this initiative upskills Thanet’s youth in technical visual arts and performance as well as providing a supportive environment to develop empathy and communication.
