Kenyan Porridge Clubs reduce school absence due to food poverty, so children have a better chance to gain skills, confidence and qualifications to improve their lives. If we hit our target, your donations will provide over 220,000 mugs of nutritious porridge so children can attend school regularly.

UNICEF reports 2.5 million children aged 6-17 in Kenya don't attend school, with only 53% of Kenyan children enrolling at secondary school. Food poverty leads to school absenteeism yet children who attend primary school regularly are more likely to enrol at secondary school. Educated children improve their health, are better paid and are able to participate in social, economic and political decision-making. Long-term prospects for children who attend school are far brighter than those who can't.

As we celebrate our 20th Anniversary, we know school Porridge Clubs offer a tried & tested solution. Developed by our Kenyan NGO partner in consultation with local teachers and families, participating schools employ a cook and receive vitamin-supplemented porridge so children enjoy a nutritious, daily porridge meal, slashing absence caused by food poverty by 80%. In 2025, Porridge Clubs enabled 2,000 children to go to school every day instead of working, begging or scavenging for food.
