Fear, misunderstanding and negative perceptions can make coexistence between people and bats challenging across southern Africa. Negative perceptions can lead to harmful practices that threaten bats and the benefits they provide to ecosystems and communities. Limited opportunities for engagement and knowledge sharing can make it difficult to identify and promote locally appropriate solutions that support coexistence.

Bats without Borders will work with bat groups and communities across southern Africa to promote coexistence through engagement, shared learning and knowledge exchange. By connecting people, sharing practical solutions and supporting community-led action, we will foster positive relationships between people and bats and strengthen conservation efforts.
