Disabled people experience significantly poorer health and well-being than non-disabled people and are more than twice as likely to be physically inactive. Snowsport can improve physical health, confidence, independence and social connection, yet disabled people remain under represented in snowsport, making up only 4% of participants. Key barriers include high costs, limited availability of adaptive lessons, low awareness of inclusive practice and lack of exposure to the sport in childhood.
Our charity addresses the barriers to participation in snowsport. Disability Snowsport UK’s vision is of mountains and ski slopes free from these barriers, where disabled children, young people and adults can learn and take part alongside family and friends. We support disabled people to participate in adaptive skiing and snowboarding, helping them to transform their confidence, fitness, friendships and unlock their potential to improve their quality and enjoyment of life.
