When a child is dying, there may be a number of professionals supporting the child and their family. But when a child dies, it can feel as if there is no one to help them. Families describe their world as ‘falling apart’ and they can find it difficult to want to go on living. The impact – including anxiety, depression and symptoms of trauma – can continue for years, shattering family life. Providing the right support is vital to help them cope, understand their grief and heal as a family.

When a child dies, we give families time to say goodbye in our bereavement suite, with memory making to create cherished keepsakes such as hand and foot castings. We support whole families to manage the overwhelming shock and pain of losing a child/ sibling and help them to learn to live with grief through counselling. Through our bereavement hub, families share their stories with other families, so they don't feel isolated in grief. We remember children who have died through annual Memory Day
