The fight against misinformation has never been fiercer. AI-generated content is becoming ever more sophisticated, the US administration is openly hostile to fact checking, and big internet companies are pulling their support as a result. Full Fact’s work is more important than ever before.

The political environment is increasingly hostile to fact checking. Big tech companies have cut our funding to avoid becoming targets themselves, leading to significant income gaps for Full Fact. Alongside this, the US administration formalised its blanket denial of visas to those who work in combatting misinformation. All this at a time when the very nature of information is shifting. AI-generated misinformation is becoming ever more sophisticated, and harder and harder for people to spot.
Full Fact fights misinformation with fact checking; covering claims made by politicians and journalists, and viral content online. Full Fact gives millions of people access to the truth on the issues that matter to them. But with the nature of misinformation changing, we also produce guidance on how to spot AI-generated content, as well as pushing big tech companies to take their responsibilities to users seriously. We add to debate, we don’t restrict it. We promote more speech, not less.
