Rongai Primary School serves 400 children, with around 50 pupils per class. Two classrooms are unsafe and unfit for learning, built from wood offcuts and corrugated iron sheets. The school also lacks suitable staff space, making it harder for teachers to plan, mark and support pupils.

Across rural Kenya, many schools lack the facilities needed to provide a safe and effective learning environment. At Rongai Primary School, 400 children attend classes, yet two classrooms are in a poor state of repair, becoming hot, cold, noisy and wet depending on the weather. The school also lacks suitable space for teachers to plan lessons and carry out administration. These conditions affect learning, teacher wellbeing and the overall quality of education available to pupils.

The Vanessa Grant Trust will work alongside Rongai Primary School and local contractors to replace two unsafe classrooms and construct a new staffroom and administration block. The new facilities will provide safe, comfortable and well-equipped spaces for learning and teaching. By improving the physical environment, we will help pupils engage more effectively in their education while giving teachers the facilities they need to support student progress.
