This Christmas, the need is urgent. While so many celebrate together, thousands of older people face the stark contrast of an empty house, feeling invisible, even more lonely and depressed. We need your help in continuing our crucial befriending service to address this hidden mental health crisis.

1 in 3 people (about 500,000) in Northern Ireland report feeling lonely more often than not, with older people especially high risk. Age UK estimates 2 Million over 50 currently experience loneliness. For so many older adults, an empty house can become a pressure cooker for anxiety and depression. Depression fuelled by chronic loneliness significantly accelerates cognitive decline and deteriorates physical health, making isolation one of NI's greatest unspoken health challenges.
Engage with Age has been a lifeline to thousands in Belfast. Our befriending support pairs trained volunteers with older people who crave company, connection and laughter, reducing isolation. Whether it is a weekly phone call, introducing befriendees to the group activities available or other support, our volunteers create lasting connections, ensuring voices are heard. This has been proven to reduce loneliness & improve mental wellbeing. But we cannot keep doing it without you.
