Menstruation remains a major barrier to gender equality. Women and girls continue to face stigma, discrimination and exclusion from education, work and public life because of harmful social norms and unequal systems. At the same time, grassroots organisations led by women and girls are chronically underfunded and excluded from decision-making, despite being closest to the communities most affected and best placed to drive lasting change.

Irise International advances menstrual justice by supporting women-led organisations and grassroots networks, including The Period Equality Network (TPEN), a network of 160 organisations across East Africa. We provide opportunities for organisations to learn from one another, strengthen leadership, influence policy and attract resources. By connecting and supporting grassroots leaders, we help drive locally led solutions that challenge menstrual injustice and advance gender equality.
