The NHS medical equipment is out of date and breaks down regularly which has the effect of delaying cancer diagnosis and treatment for patients. The NHS is severely underfunded with very limited funding to purchase replacement equipment, especially the most advanced and up to date equipment, leading to delays. The prolonging of diagnosis and elongation of treatment has a devastating impact on patients, both women and men, and their family and support network.
BUST bridges the shortfall in NHS funding by fundraising to purchase new and advanced equipment, which to date has ranged from Ultrasound Probes costing £20k each to a state of the art MRI scanner for £2.65m. By achieving this £16k target, BUST will continue to bridge this equipment shortfall in support of patients and also the clinical teams in providing a Centre of Excellence for breast care in Bristol, Weston and the surrounding areas.
