Folk dancing is a powerful tool for community cohesion, wellbeing and fitness, and enriching lives. By supporting grassroots groups across England and developing inclusive events we want to increase the delivery of and access to folk dance engagement for people from all communities.

Finding funds to begin, develop or support social folk dance activity is challenging, particularly in the amateur-driven folk sector. Many skilled practitioners work with great enthusiasm but no financial backing. We already receive more grant applications than we can fund and also need funds to increase access to our own dance activities. We want to make good quality folk dancing affordable and widely accessible to communities and people from all backgrounds, all over England.
This seed-funding will support community folk dance throughout England, across generations and backgrounds. It will help experienced partners to reach new people, alongside presenting our own dance activities in communities who need more help to build successful events. Through engaging people who are socially disadvantaged, older, disabled or displaced, we will drive best-practice activities. By sharing the results and learning gained, we will build legacy beyond these individual projects.
