We have identified a clear gap in access for rural communities. Although 31% of residents across Andover, Basingstoke and Aldershot live in rural areas, only 25% of our service users are rural. The mental health need is high: around 1 in 6 adults in Hampshire experience anxiety or depression, with rates in Test Valley 14.4% and Basingstoke 15.1% above the average 12.3%. Rural residents face poor transport, fewer services and greater isolation, leaving many delaying help and leaving needs unmet.
Our wellbeing practitioners will deliver prevention and early intervention mental health services within rural community spaces, directly to those people living mental health challenges, but unable to access them currently. We will provide 1-2-1 sessions, therapeutic and group-based courses to maximise their recovery and our clinical DIALOG + outcome tool will help us measure our impact. Delivering support in trusted local village settings will encourage engagement and promote inclusivity.
