A growing secondary school with over 1,400 pupils and 16 surrounding villages in rural Zambia lacks adequate access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene facilities. Limited safe water sources and poor hygiene infrastructure contribute to illness, absenteeism and reduced educational outcomes, especially for girls. Rising demand has overwhelmed existing facilities, creating an urgent need for sustainable clean water access and improved hygiene services for the school and surrounding communities.
Provide a solar powered, sustainable water reticulation system to supply safe water to a growing secondary school and surrounding communities. Construct a girls’ washroom and ventilated improved pit latrines for students to improve sanitation, privacy and dignity. Deliver hygiene education and training to the school WASHE Club and local community members to promote safe hygiene practices, reduce disease and strengthen long-term community health and wellbeing.
