Christmas can be a worrying time for adults with learning disabilities. Routines change, which can cause loneliness and distress. Harpenden Mencap will go ‘above and beyond’ when other services are closed, compassionately supporting vulnerable adults to enjoy Christmas the way they choose.

The festive season can be especially stressful for adults with learning disabilities. This community is vulnerable to social isolation, loneliness and poor mental health. Disruption to routines at Christmas and sensory overload can cause anxiety and depression. Many services and groups supporting this community close for the Christmas break, leaving these vulnerable adults at risk of loneliness and distress.

Harpenden Mencap goes ‘above and beyond’ the basic statutory provision of care all year round, and especially at Christmas. We provide personalised support, empowering adults with learning disabilities to spend the festive season how they’d like to. We help them get out to local events, plan journeys to visit loved ones, share festive meals, and much more. Harpenden Mencap keeps people connected, bringing comfort and joy to this vulnerable community.
