Hearing the words “you have cancer” is one of the most difficult experiences anyone can face. Our clients can be overwhelmed: in fear, uncertainty, isolation and distress. At CancerCare, we offer support to anyone in our area affected by cancer: those with a diagnosis, and those who love them.

“I’ve had enough”; “I’m overwhelmed”; “I can’t stop crying” – according to our assessors, these are some of the first words our clients say when they ask for our help. Often, it is the first time that these people have voiced what is on their mind. They may be anxious for the future, or dealing with the side effects of cancer treatment or surgery. They come to us physically and emotionally changed by their cancer, moving fearfully, not sleeping, not eating well, living in a state of tension.

“I don't cry anymore, I can get on with life now and look forward.” Our professional, 1:1 therapies help relieve symptoms, encourage self-confidence, promote relaxation, and ease the physical and emotional effects of medical treatment. We also support families and carers, and provide group support to help people feel less isolated. Our clients tell us that scar massage has helped them to regain strength and mobility after surgery; that counselling has helped them feel less alone after loss.
