Link Age Southwark will bring older and younger people together to reduce loneliness and increase trust, friendship and understanding between generations. This campaign will support our new project to set up intergenerational groups and befriending.

Over half of our beneficiaries report social isolation and lack confidence about leaving their home, risking poorer physical and mental health. According to research from Southwark Council, persistently lonely residents are more likely to experience emergency hospitalisations and longer recovery stays. But it is not just older people who are struggling, with roughly 13% of 16 to 24-year-olds in Southwark report feeling lonely often.

We will run intergenerational groups including creative sessions and digital support; recruit young volunteer befrienders to match with people who are housebound and hold intergenerational parties and events with local schools. These activities will be free to attend and will provide a welcoming and inclusive environment.
