The race to save nature is being won, but only where the right people have the right support. WFN finds and backs the world's most effective grassroots conservation leaders, so frontline communities can protect wildlife and restore our planet

We're living through the largest species loss in human history. Human activity has severely altered 75% of terrestrial and 66% of marine environments, and a million species face extinction. The climate and biodiversity crises are accelerating together, yet less than 4% of UK philanthropic funding reaches the environment. Local leaders with proven results are best placed to turn the tide, but they remain chronically under-resourced, and that is the gap that WFN closes.
For over three decades, WFN has channelled funding to local leaders running effective conservation projects in countries facing the greatest biodiversity loss. We back leaders with sustained, flexible funding and the networks and visibility they need to scale. Through them, we support work rooted in communities that is restoring landscapes, protects wildlife, and supporting stable climate systems with socially-just approaches.
