Each year around 16,000 people leave the UK Armed Forces to begin their civilian life. Most need new employment to make that transition successful, but less than half of veterans feel they have had the support they need to access training and find new jobs. At the same time, land-based employment opportunities are not well understood and yet offer a huge variety of careers well suited to those with military backgrounds.

HighGround works to bridge the gap between military service and civilian life by matching highly trained, motivated individuals to a sector that often struggles to fill vacancies. Our Rural Weeks programme enables participants to immerse themselves in the world of land-based industries, meeting employers, undertaking site visits and seeing first-hand the many jobs and careers available. Together with our tailored advice and guidance we help build new futures working in the outdoors.
