Raising Boys’ Voices will bridge the choral gender gap in London, supporting over 300 boys aged 7-23. Through specialist choirs, vocal coaching for changing voices, and bursaries, we will empower boys from all backgrounds to find their community and thrive through the power of singing.

In London, boys represent just 30% of LYC membership. This reflects a wider crisis: 57% of state secondary teachers say pupils never sing together, often due to a lack of role models, the challenge of voice change, and financial hardship. 35% of our current reach includes young people living in poverty. Without intervention, boys drop out of music during adolescence, losing the vital social and emotional benefits of singing in a supportive community.
We are establishing a specialist hub for the male voice. Our project removes barriers through seven strands: dedicated boys’ choirs (Junior and Cambiata), specialist vocal coaching for voice change, and a 100% equitable access model providing bursaries and travel support. We also run school outreach workshops and recruitment campaigns featuring male role models. This integrated approach attracts boys, supports them through adolescence, and ensures cost is never a barrier.
