A one-time investment can create long-term change. By growing our successful poultry project from 200 to 2,000 hens, we will generate sustainable income to cover 40% of our running costs, helping secure the future of our charity while supporting the community with nutrition, skills and employment.

Financial sustainability has been a goal of the charity since it was founded in 1986. As we approach our 40th anniversary, we want to reduce our dependency on donations and create reliable local income streams. Our team in Uganda has explored several social enterprise opportunities and has been testing small-scale agricultural initiatives. We need an injection of upfront capital to grow these successful pilot ventures to a scale where they can generate significant and sustainable income.
The poultry project is the best way forward. We will expand this pilot by renovating existing buildings into chicken houses and increasing production from the current 200 hens to the ambition of 2,000 laying hens. Using numbers from the pilot we can predict the project will earn an income after 4 months. After 10 months the project will be self-sustaining with enough surplus to cover 40% of the charity's monthly running costs, with a 45% ROI, creating long-term financial resilience.
