Newly arrived and refugee children and young people often face trauma, poverty and isolation. Many struggle with English, poor mental health, disrupted education and rebuilding their lives in a new country. They often lack safe, inclusive spaces to make friends, belong and thrive. Unaccompanied asylum-seeking children (UASC) are, on average, over three years behind non-migrant peers when they sit GCSEs. Without timely support, these challenges can shape their futures.
Building on over a century of serving Battersea, we provide age-specific, holistic support, helping refugee children and young people thrive at every stage. Our trusted team, including staff and volunteers with lived experience of seeking sanctuary, delivers early years learning, homework clubs, mentoring, English support, wellbeing, sport, creative activities, youth leadership and employability advice. Together, these provide the stability, skills and relationships needed to belong and succeed.
