Small Woodlands have an important role in woodland biodiversity and the health and wellbeing of local communities visiting them. The Small Woods Association promotes practical sustainable woodland management and protects our small woodlands in the UK for the benefit of the environment and people.

The UK's native woodlands are in decline, with wildlife, biodiversity and traditional woodland skills being lost. Thousands of small woodlands remain unmanaged, reducing their ecological, social and economic value. At the same time, people are increasingly disconnected from nature, contributing to poorer physical and mental wellbeing. Without support, these irreplaceable habitats and the knowledge needed to care for them risk being lost for future generations.
Small Woods Association restores neglected woodlands through sustainable management, practical conservation, training and expert advice. We equip woodland owners, volunteers and contractors with the skills to improve biodiversity, increase climate resilience and create rural livelihoods. We also deliver woodland-based health and wellbeing programmes that reconnect people with nature while ensuring woodlands thrive for wildlife, communities and future generations.
