Our Grief Companion Scheme matches newly bereaved parents with a trained peer volunteer who empathises with their loss. Ongoing one‑to‑one support offers connection, understanding and a lifeline out of isolation. Described by one parent as “the exact support I needed at this particular time.”

Newly bereaved parents of a child of any age (from a one-month baby to an adult child) often feel isolated and unable to talk openly about their child. Many say others “wouldn’t understand”, leaving them alone with overwhelming grief. One parent shared, “I had no one to talk to about my child.” This isolation worsens grief, leaving parents without the connection, empathy and support they urgently need.

We provide 1-1 peer support matching parents with a volunteer grief companion who has experienced a similar loss. Support is offered to parents bereaved of a child of any age and from any cause (eg. suicide, cancer or long-term physical illness, drug or alcohol use or through a sudden illness or accident). Regular contact for up to 12 months offers understanding, space to talk & a compassionate companion who understands. Parents describe the match as “careful, considered” and often “a lifeline”
