In rural Tanzania, many people drink contaminated water from ponds and streams accessible to animals. Local disease rates are high, and women and children walk long distances to fetch water. Our local team builds sustainable wells close to where they are needed. We want to build 15 more.

For many rural communities in Tanzania, collecting water means long walks to contaminated ponds and streams shared with animals. The consequences are serious: preventable illnesses, lost time in education, and reduced opportunities for women and girls. Along with our trusted local partners we provide communities with access to clean water closer to home. With your support this Christmas, we can bring safe water to 15 more villages.

Our local partner uses an innovative and low-cost method of hand-drilling wells and installing rope pumps that reach depths of up to 30 metres. These do not require electricity, are easy to maintain, and are built using local labour and materials. Since 2016, over 200 wells have been installed, serving over 100,000 people. Because they can be built close to the point of need, they greatly reduce the time spent fetching water, as well as lowering rates of gastro-intestinal illness.
