In Uganda, more than 15,000 children live in 363 children’s homes, though many could thrive safely in families with the right support. Poverty, disability, crisis can separate children from those who love them. Child’s i Foundation tackles the root causes by strengthening families, preventing unnecessary admissions into care, reuniting children with relatives, and supporting safe family-based alternatives such as foster care and adoption so every child can grow up safe, loved and in family care
Child’s i addresses family separation by acting early and strengthening the systems around children. We identify families at risk, provide practical support before crisis leads to separation, and work with relatives to safely reunite children already in care. We also develop foster care and adoption options, train communities and child protection workers, and support government to reduce reliance on children’s homes, so children can grow up safe, loved and in families.
