Smart Works exists to bring about positive change for women in disadvantaged circumstances by helping them to a secure job and break the cycle of poverty and deprivation caused by unemployment. Unemployment remains a major cause of poverty in the UK, resulting in physical and mental health problems, food insecurity and debt. The latest ONS figures recorded female unemployment at 4.6%, the highest level since 2020. As a result, our service is needed more than ever.

At Smart Works each woman benefits from a bespoke dressing consultation where she receives a high-quality interview outfit (free and hers to keep) and one-to-one interview coaching, equipping her with the confidence and practical skills to overcome barriers to success. This works: 68% get the job after being supported before an interview, 95% feel more confident, and 97% feel Smart Works improved their chances of success.
