Asylum seekers and refugees in Blackburn with Darwen face homelessness after an asylum decision. Guests carry trauma from displacement and lack knoweldge to run a UK home, or connections to combat isolation.Without accommodation and support, transitions to independence often end in crisis, debt and poor mental health with systemic exclusion exposing them to trafficking, exploitation and modern-day slavery. We are the only Lancashire organisation housing asylum seekers in this position.
We provide safe, temporary shared accommodation across six one- and two-bedroom homes — covering costs in full for guests whose claim has failed with no recourse to public funds — alongside support to access legal advice, healthcare and English classes. Our in-house support blends trauma-informed wellbeing activities, independent living training and casework: recovery sessions, skills workshops (budgeting, tenancy, utilities), connection trips, and mentoring into training, work and volunteering.
