Our mentoring project is aimed at young people aged 14 - 25yrs old, living in the north of Cheshire East, who are living with multiple difficulties. They are matched and supported by specially trained volunteers, who will work with them, one to one, to help them achieve their identified goals.

According to the 2025 Keep Britain Working Review young people with mental health conditions are 4.7 times more likely to be economically inactive than their cohort. The 2026 UK youth unemployment and NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training) report reveals a crisis level, with over 1 million young people aged 16 to 24 (13.5% of the demographic) out of work or study. This marks the highest peak in over a decade, driven by a sharp decline in entry-level jobs and rising economic inactivity.
Our proposal has developed from our increased understanding of the need for this type of intervention locally in Macclesfield over the last 4 years. Our evaluation has evidenced the validity of Mentoring as an intervention model which is also supported by other national research. We have increased capacity of the project, recruited a designated Project Worker with funding from the Big Give last year and need to continue funding of this hugely successful project.
