Over the last half century, numbers of vegetable varieties available to sow have plummeted and skills to grow and maintain them are disappearing. After 50 years saving seed, we are entering the decade that decides whether more living varieties survive, thrive, or disappear.

People have saved seed for growing their crops for generations. A diversity of vegetable varieties has developed over time, peaking in the first half of the 20th Century. Since then, the variety of seeds available to grow, save and share amongst growers for future years has shrunk. There is now a severe risk that there are too few options to grow crops in a range of conditions and situations to adequately feed people.
We will involve our expert members in passing on knowledge to future generations, passing on the art and practice of seed saving and vegetable growing. We will train more individuals enabling more people to grow from seed and save their own. We will distribute heritage seed varieties to an increasing number of new gardeners and seasoned growers. We will save seed to bring more varieties back from the brink of disappearing.
