Sight and hearing impairment are some of the UK's most common forms of disability. Almost 2 million people live with sight loss, more than 12 million people are affected by hearing loss and 2.4 million adults have a level of hearing loss which means they struggle to hear most speech. Research shows that sight and hearing impaired people want to take part in leisure activities like everyone else. Currently, lack of accessible equipment and facilities prevents them from doing so.
We will make our Stowfield Therapeutic Smallholding more accessible to people with sight and hearing impairment. It will become a leisure destination where people can safely and confidently enjoy themselves. We will install hearing loops in our Activity Barn and Training Lodge, audio posts that describe the site and an area for Guide Dogs. This will support people to explore independently and confidently and gain the wellbeing, social and learning benefits of our wonderful site.
