Support JUSTICE’s core work to create a fairer justice system that strengthens democracy, builds trust, and enables all of us to thrive. We advocate for better laws, policies, and practices, and we challenge developments that threaten people’s rights or their equality before the law.

A functioning justice system is needed for everything from an efficient economy to a robust democracy. But the UK justice system is failing on multiple fronts. Racial disparities in the criminal justice system are deepening, court backlogs are increasing, prisons are dangerously overcrowded and many, including victims of domestic abuse, cannot access justice. Without urgent reform, people’s trust in the justice system - and the broader institutions it supports - will continue to erode.
We want the justice system to work better, and work for everyone. We carry out research on its problems providing recommendations to improve it and then work with decision makers to change it for the better. We brief Parliament on how to improve new legislation, intervene in third-party court cases to protect rights. We hold events, and work with the media, to expand everyone’s knowledge of the system and their rights. This system change approach can help thousands of people at a time.
