The North Sea is one of the world’s most biologically productive seas. We want to keep it that way. Our river and marine engagement project will protect its future by improving habitats around the Coquet and Druridge Bay and supporting local communities to connect to and care for their blue spaces.

Covering over 70% of the Earth’s surface, seas play an essential role in supporting life on Earth. The North Sea has historically supported a range of important marine habitats, including oyster reefs, seagrass beds, kelp forests and saltmarshes. Today, these habitats are under pressure from climate change, pollution and exploitation, contributing to biodiversity decline and highlighting the need for action to support nature’s recovery.

NWT will conduct Conservation activities including baseline monitoring of seagrass and environmental conditions  and  water quality sampling providing essential baseline data and feed into wider North Sea coast projects. Engagement activities will include volunteer and school engagement, delivery of coastal education events, and developing of partnerships with local organisations.   Information gathered at this stage of the project will feed into feasibility for a larger coast wide project.
