Sarcoma is frequently known as the ‘loneliest cancer’, a cancer that few have heard of and even fewer understand. A recent You Gov survey detailed big challenges with awareness and reach. For example, 1 in 3 people have never heard of sarcoma.

Sarcoma is a rare cancer that can occur in bone or soft tissue, with over 100 different subtypes. Because it’s so uncommon, diagnosis is often delayed, which can seriously affect outcomes. Many people and their families have never heard of sarcoma before their diagnosis and face fear, confusion, and isolation; sarcoma can be a truly devastating diagnosis. We’re here to change that—by raising awareness, improving understanding, and providing support, so no one has to face sarcoma alone.
To increase awareness of sarcoma and Sarcoma UK, we have a variety of activities planned. We now have a Sarcoma Specialist Nurse who acts as Healthcare Professional Engagement Lead, working to increase direct referrals and organising training for health professionals. For the sarcoma community we have several awareness activities planned to include expanding subtype information on the website, creating mental health information resources, a Community Day and Sarcoma Awareness month in July 2027.
