People affected by cleft often face extra financial strain, including travel to appointments, unpaid time off work, feeding difficulties, and long term speech and dental needs. This means many families and individuals are struggling to access support to help them cope emotionally and socially alongside clinical care. Almost 60% of parents are highly concerned about their child’s emotional wellbeing, dental health and the lack of understanding of cleft among teachers and GPs.

CLAPA works in partnership with people affected by cleft to design, review and deliver our services. By listening to lived experience and involving our community, we ensure support is relevant, inclusive and responsive to need. We provide free, accessible services, including one-to-one support, events, youth mentoring, and guidance, helping families and individuals access the support they need.
