Last year, there were 26,525 visits and calls from our 24/7 response team, many in the middle of the night from families at home, caring for a loved one at the end of life. At night we feel most vulnerable and alone. When someone is in pain or struggling to breathe, a calm, specialist voice on the phone when other services are closed is vital. That reassuring voice may be all they need but when it isn’t, we can send specialist care to their home, typically arriving faster than an ambulance.
Our emergency advice line and response team provide urgent specialist support to the patients and families in our care, free of charge, but it is not free to provide. £100,000 would staff the service throughout winter, ensuring our night team is there 24/7 to offer urgent care. With only a third of our funding coming from the NHS, we rely on donations from the community we serve. Without our supporters, we could not be there for patients and their families during their darkest hours.
