Queer Britain Museum is the only LGBTQ+ museum in the UK, and only one of ten around the world. At a time when our identities are being erased, our mission is to Reclaim, Preserve and Inspire LGBTQ+ history and culture. We do this by bringing unheard stores from around the UK to public display.

LGBTQ+ history is often erased, ignored, or rewritten. Our stories are marginalised, our experiences dismissed, and our voices silenced. In a climate of political instability and with LGBTQ+ people around the world facing their rights being taken away, the UK needs a place to remind the public of past struggles, how we overcame them to achieve equality, and why we need to continue fighting for equity, and even just our basic human rights.

Through our work - our exhibitions and displays, our public programming, and our collection - we activate public understanding around the issues that LGBTQ+ people faced in the UK from the past, give visibility to the present, and advocate and fight for social justice in the future. Working with community organisations and other galleries, libraries, archives and museums, our co-curation methodology places lived experience at the heart of storytelling. LGBTQ+ people tell their own stories here.
