Living Streets is the UK charity for everyday walking. We enable more people to walk by making streets more accessible, inclusive and safe. In 2026, we will deliver our Future of Our Streets Blueprint, setting out how streets can be redesigned to prioritise walking.

A society that doesn’t walk is disconnected, less healthy and unequal. Many are excluded by inaccessible streets, poor infrastructure and unsafe environments. Streets have been designed around cars for decades, prioritising traffic over people. This has created multiple barriers—especially for disabled people, older people, children and those in deprived communities. New pressures—such as micromobility, larger vehicles, and competition for pavement space—are making streets harder to navigate.

Without action, fewer people will be able to walk safely and confidently. We will enable more walking by driving change nationally and locally—delivering our Future of Our Streets Blueprint, campaigning to remove barriers like pavement parking and poor infrastructure, improving safe crossings, empowering communities to advocate for change, working with government, local councils and decision-makers to embed accessible walking in policy and planning for the future of our streets for pedestrians.
