Many older people in York experience loneliness, isolation and difficulty accessing everyday support, especially as mobility and confidence decline. York Neighbours is a volunteer-led charity with a small part-time team, supporting growing numbers of older people to stay connected and independent. Demand continues to rise, creating a need for more volunteers to provide wellbeing calls, more drivers, to help provide outings, transport and practical support through one-off tasks across the city.
York Neighbours would continue supporting older people to stay connected and independent. Funding would secure three years of outings and a volunteer driver recruitment campaign, helping more older people access social activities and reduce isolation. It would also fund around 600 one-off tasks and errands, providing practical support for older people who need help with everyday activities and have no one else to turn to.
