Homeless young people lack access to savings or financial support from family or friends. Lewis’s story (the person in our Big Give banner) represents thousands of young people across the UK. Lewis says ‘my mental health was really bad. I often felt done with life. I wasn’t working and was just surviving. I didn’t have much left after paying my rent and bills so skipped meals regularly’. Without financial support, young people like Lewis are trapped and unable to move on from homelessness.

Our Boost removes financial barriers to education and employment. For Lewis it paid for interview clothes and travel costs. He said ‘This has made such a difference to me. Honestly without it I think I’d be in supported housing forever’. Last year, EveryYouth awarded 620 Boosts to young people like Lewis. The average Boost was £109, which can change the course of a life. Lewis now lives in a shared house and has started a three year apprenticeship to become a Senior Youth Worker.
