Last year, multiple local sexual violence services had to close, meaning more survivors than ever are turning to SARSAS. We're raising funds to support survivors of rape and sexual abuse, including our helpline, counselling, drop-in sessions and peer support, so that no one has to wait alone.

Demand for specialist sexual violence support has never been higher. Last year we received 1,913 referrals, up 260% since 2019. Two local sexual violence services have recently had to close, and we have taken on their waiting lists. Statutory services have also tightened their eligibility criteria, so more survivors are turning to us. Survivors are now waiting longer than they should have to for one-to-one support, and without help while they wait, trauma symptoms can worsen.
We make sure survivors are supported while they wait. Alongside trauma-informed counselling and specialist support work, our 'waiting well' offer means help is available from day one: a confidential helpline, email and live chat support, Drop In and Reach Out community sessions, emotional support calls, peer support groups, and self-help resources. Unrestricted funding will help us sustain these services and support survivors through the waiting list as demand continues to grow.
