Stories cannot tell themselves. Whether documenting the horror of war, the realities of climate change or the quiet dignity of survival, journalism begins with someone being there.

Across the world, the space for independent journalism is shrinking. Governments and armed groups increasingly target those who document abuses, expose corruption and hold power to account. Freelance journalists face a convergence of threats: physical violence, arbitrary detention, online harassment, digital surveillance and reputational attacks. Their protection is not simply an act of solidarity; it is essential to the preservation of democratic space. When they are silenced, impunity expands.
When they are supported, accountability becomes possible. The Rory Peck Trust exists to provide specialist support and training to freelance journalists; empowering them with the knowledge, resources and resilience required to gather the facts and establish the truth, safely and without fear.
