Each year Reaching Higher engages over 1500 young people across Croydon through Contextual Youth Work across their school, community and home contexts. We support young people to build transferable employability skills, strengthen their wellbeing, build positive friendships and access safe spaces.

Impact areas

Services for young people in Croydon have been cut significantly in recent years, creating particular gaps related to young people's safety, for example a lack of appropriate recreational and sports facilities for young people to use. This has resulted in increased risks for young people. There are also gaps in mental health support and opportunities for building positive friendships and social connection, resulting in a rapid decline in young people's wellbeing.

Reaching Higher runs activities in schools and in our local community 4 days per week during term-time, providing a range of free fun activities and learning opportunities for over 1500 young people aged 11-18 each year. Our programmes include sports (football, basketball, dance, and multi-sports), group and 1:1 mentoring, a youth-run cafe, workshops on employability, leadership and communication skills, and youth wellbeing hubs where young people can build healthy friendships.
