For many women, home is not a place of safety, it is the most dangerous place they can be. An estimated two million women in England experienced domestic abuse in the last year. While winter often brings celebration, for survivors of domestic abuse it can bring heightened risk, deeper isolation, and escalating violence. When leaving can mean homelessness and fear, the choice is never simple. No woman or child should ever be forced to choose between safety and survival.
Too often, women and children experiencing abuse face impossible choices to stay safe and huge barriers to fleeing. We work to change attitudes, policy and law so those escaping abuse are met with belief, understanding and practical support. As a federation of 167 member organisations delivering over 300 lifesaving services, we support women and children at every stage of their journey. No one should face abuse alone, and safety should always be the easiest choice.
