Rebuilding a life after displacement takes courage. Education makes it possible. We’re raising funds to help refugees and people seeking sanctuary in the UK to gain the education, skills and qualifications they need to rebuild their lives, find purpose, and contribute to society.

Beginning again in a new country takes courage. Many refugees and people seeking asylum arrive in the UK with skills, experience and ambition, but face barriers to using them. UK jobs often require recognised qualifications, licences or higher levels of English. Course and exam costs are unaffordable for many, leaving people stuck and unable to move forward. Education also plays a vital role in restoring confidence, purpose and mental wellbeing.
The Ruth Hayman Trust removes financial barriers to education. We award grants to refugees and people seeking sanctuary in the UK to access courses such as ESOL, health and social care, law, accounting and vocational training. We also fund essential exams and licences, including IELTS, PLAB and professional registrations. Our rigorous grants process ensures awards go to those facing genuine hardship, though difficult choices remain.
