We want audiences to feel that their experience in The Rake Theatre reflects the high quality cultural programme offered at The Dukes, but feedback tells us our audiences view it as shabby and uncomfortable. The Rake Project will raise funds for more seat refurbishments and new carpet.

Over the past two years we have been making improvements to our main auditorium, The Rake, by refurbishing 117 of the 313 seats, painting the auditorium, and installing acoustic panelling. Further updates are desperately needed including replacing the carpet on the aisles and front and rear of the auditorium. The carpet is over 40 years old, and is worn, stained and threadbare in places. The remaining 196 seats are also worn, ripped and uncomfortable and in urgent need of refurbishment.

To improve our audience's experience we're aiming to raise funds to purchase and install new, stylish and hardwearing carpet in the auditorium to complement the newly refurbished seats which are beautifully upholstered in a rich, hardwearing, red-coloured fabric to match the tone of The Dukes' branding. We'd also like to continue the refurbishment of the seats so that The Rake has a smart and welcoming appearance and our audiences can enjoy our high quality programme in a quality environment.
