This Christmas, we are responding to increasing cost of living and inequality in Southwark. Too many families face hunger, hardship and the loneliness that comes with it, and demand for Pecan keeps rising. Pecan does more than respond to crisis. We help people move beyond it, to feel hope again.

The cost-of-living crisis still falls hardest on those already in poverty, and the need we see keeps growing. In 2025/26 Pecan’s Foodbank gave out 4,915 food parcels, feeding 2,602 children. Our Financial Resilience Adviser supported 342 people with debt, low income, ill-health and addiction. Our Women’s Service worked with 75 women a month and our Employment team with 113, facing housing worries, debt, isolation and poor mental health. A foodbank referral is rarely just about food.
Pecan tackles both the symptoms and the causes of poverty alongside the people of Southwark, through three connected priorities: Financial & Food Resilience; Employment & Opportunity; and Safety, Belonging & Wellbeing. This Christmas we will keep providing crisis support with emergency and festive food. And we’ll go further, offering the advice, advocacy and support that help people move on, out of debt, into work, into peer networks and mental-health support.
