Historically informed performance (HIP) has transformed our understanding of baroque and early classical music. Yet opportunities for early career musicians to develop specialist HIP skills through intensive training and mentorship remain limited, particularly in early 19th-century repertoire where knowledge and practice continue to evolve. Without investment in the next generation of performers, the growth and future of the movement is at risk.
Our project will immerse students and early career professionals in early 19th-century performance practice, providing specialist training and side-by-side experience with AAM's professionals. Culminating in a performance of a Beethoven symphony, the programme will develop the next generation of historically informed performers, build expertise in later repertoire, provide CPD for established professionals, and inspire audiences with refreshed and reinvigorated interpretations of beloved works.
