Gifted Women supports women in Plymouth to move towards, and into employment. We work with women who are rebuilding their lives after facing homelessness, problematic substance use, or the justice system. We bridge the gap to employment, helping women turn resilience into opportunity.

Our Programme tackles the systemic, overlapping barriers that often prevent women facing multiple disadvantage from accessing work, stability, and independence. All have experienced homelessness, problematic substance use, and/or the justice system, and these are often compounded by trauma, abuse, and poverty. Additionally, they face challenges such as gaps in work history, stigma, lack of qualifications, low confidence and practical barriers such as transport, clothing, and childcare.
The Gifted Women Employability Programme is a trauma- and gender-informed 18-month journey that empowers women facing disadvantage by providing support to boost confidence, self-esteem and employability skills. Through social and employability focused group activities, 1:1 support and with the help of sympathetic local employer partners, women explore employment or training options at their own pace, helping them break cycles of disadvantage and move forwards with their lives.
